Spawning Observation
The Capelin Observers Network was established by Fisheries and Oceans Canada and various partners in 2002 to improve knowledge on capelin spawning. Through the network, the public can report their observations, and capelin spawning sites on the shore of the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence can be better documented.Capelin is a key species in the St. Lawrence ecosystem. It is one of the main food sources for several species of fish and birds and even many marine mammals.Have You Seen Capelin Spawning?
